I went looking for a replacement for my Yardman lawnmower. After checking a local shop specializing in tractors and such, I felt that $23 for a replacement blade was too much. After looking at Sears, I found a blade but it did not have the STAR CENTER CUT that the original blade has.

I was very happy to find this blade here at such a low price. I actually ordered two based on the part number included in the description as well as the picture. The only issue is that the picture is incorrect. The replacement blade does NOT have the STAR CENTER CUT but has been made to circumvent this by using a wider opening (thus the 4 of 5 stars - it would be 5 stars if the picture was clearer and the description was written better i.e. "This blade does not have the STAR CENTER CUT but will fit your lawnmower regardless. The special cut allows for the blade to be attached properly with no worries").

I did install the blade and it DID fit nicely. No worries or safety concerns from what I can tell. I mowed the lawn and it cut perfectly on both bagging and mulching mode. Enjoy!

I purchased a pair of Oregon Gator blades to replace the worn/bent Sears blades on my Craftsman 42" riding mower. The Oregon Gator blades are MUCH heavier duty, thicker, and are on a whole different level than Sears blades when it comes to quality. These blades can hit stumps, rocks, and other debris and are bulletproof. No signs of wear at all after 5-6 mows of tall, thick grass.

A word of advice - make sure you install the blade properly. The teeth on the back of the blade must be pointed upward toward the top of the mowing deck. I made the mistake of installing them upside-down, and unfortunately mowed about 1/2 my lawn with the blades in the wrong position. Surprisingly the cut looked fine, but a few days later I noticed the badly torn grass blades, and knew that I installed the blades improperly. Dumb move, I know, but I had already taken off my other blades (which were bent/worn) and didn't bother to double-check the orientation of the cutting edge before installing the new blades. Just made the wrong assumption that the teeth should curve down toward the grass, and torn grass blades were the result.

These Oregon Gator blades would have received 5-stars, but I rated it 4-stars because there was no "grass-side down" marking on the blade, as is always the case with Craftsman mower blades. Otherwise, these blades I'm sure will outlast the mower as they are made of hardened steel and are much thicker gauge than other mower blades. Do NOT sharpen these blades out of the box, the protective layer of paint on the edge makes the blade feel dull, but it will wear off during the first mow, revealing the sharp edge. The blades are sharpened by precision at the factory for the most ideal cut, so by trying to sharpen the blades when they are new, the efficiency and effectiveness of the blade is reduced.

The Oregon 21" Gator blades will outlast most other mower blades sold at Sears and other stores, they are a smart investment as you'll save $$ by not having to sharpen/replace these every year.   Read more >>>

Last year I ordered the same mower blades when they were worn. When it came time for new blades I would just resubmit the order on amazon. It is the factory part so that isn't the problem.

The real problem was the packing. There was NO packing material. If you can see the picture that is what was supposed to be in the box. When the 3 foot box arrived it had almost no weight. It turned out it was empty. Without packing material the roughly two foot blades were free to slide in the box. The UPS delivery driver believed it slide enough to shred the tape holding the box closed until it fell out somewhere.

I installed these blades the other day and took my mower out Saturday. It didn't seem any different from the factory blades as far as the cut was concerned. Then I hit some leaves left over from the fall. Mulch baby mulch. Wow, what a great job and chopping up those dead leaves. A far superior job then I got with the factory blades. If you have a lot of trees around your yard, these babies will make quick work spreading the leaves around without leaving a mess. Glad I got them. BTW: the delivery was fast and painless. Overall, a great deal.
